Registration in Newark
Jeff Soyer says they are talking about registration in Newark. Little known fact is that The Garden State does actually have preemption:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the local governmental units of this State may neither enact nor enforce any ordinance or other local law or regulation conflicting with, or preempted by, any provision of this code or with any policy of this State expressed by this code, whether that policy be expressed by inclusion of a provision in the code or by exclusion of that subject from the code.
So it would appear Corzine is fine with his local communities violating state law. It’s for the children.
UPDATE: Ahab has more.

It sort of sounds like Corzine may be proposing a state law (currently) specific to Newark, in which case preemption may not be an issue.
Corzine’s administration has recently issued a number of gun-related press releases which are so poorly written and confusing that it’s hard to figure out what they actually say. Since Corzine’s usual agenda is promoting nanny socialism, cynical interpretations are probably closest to the truth.

Yeah, I’ve been getting them in the google alerts. The media there doesn’t seem to have much of a clue about the issue either. I kind of wonder of Corzine’s office even knows what the current gun laws are, or he’s just putting out press releases with whatever sounds good so it increases the chance of his reelection.

One other thing to note is that Booker said the proposed law includes a DC/San Fran style “mandatory locked up” component.

When you consider that Corzine violates state laws himself (speeding, no seat belts) does it come as a surprise when he dos’nt mind local governments doing so as well?
