Proximity

It’s always Virginia’s fault:

Law enforcement authorities traced more than 10,000 guns recovered in Virginia, Maryland and the District last year — and nearly half came from Virginia, according to federal data released yesterday.

But, you know, if you look at the stats on the sidebar then Virginia doesn’t really stand out so much. Well, unless you’re in Virginia.

We’re having a problem with that “recovered guns” stat here in Milwaukee. They’re still insisting on calling them all crime guns, even tho last time they pulled this they finally admitted that “some” were theft recoveries and turn-ins. When that vague breakdown was extracted it turned out that out of 1400 guns traced to the “evil” gun store (they actually call the cops when someone seems to be a straw buyer) only 40 were linked to murders.

This is one of the silliest figures I’ve read in a long time. When comparing crime in only two states plus one piddly city, is it any surprise that the larger of the two states would account for “almost half” of anything? It’s kinda built into the definition of “half.”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
