Excellent Idea
I might invest in a company that makes Taser-proof clothing. But, really, how long before someone passed a law banning it? A week?

One of my other hobbies is making chainmaille. Jewelry mostly. Though I’ve occasionally wondered about the utility of a hauberk with a ground strap connected to a conductive panel on the sole of your shoe…
That could also (depending on its construction) render the wearer highly resistant to certain types of knife attacks Not so good against firearms, though, as the rings that make up the maille would become shrapnel on impact. Also, you would want to carry your cell phone in an outside pocket.
Of course this would make going through the metal detector at the airport, um, entertaining…

The increase of police tasering people has reached a tipping point for me. Just this week I hear about a fellow tasered in his bathroom wearing only a towel and pointing to his hears telling the police he couldn’t hear them. A few weeks ago I read of an 82 year old woman being tasered. The only response we hear seems to be that police are investigating if any policies have been violated.
The substitution of process for leadership and decision making.
I live in a town with 23,000 people and we have a shiny new SWAT team. What’s up with that?

If I remember my physics correctly, the electricity will follow the path of least resistance, so any sort of metal mesh should absorb the electricity in place of your body. However, I don’t know if it has to be grounded…
If anyone wanted to experiment, it’d probably be easier to start with a stun gun instead.

Carbon fiber futures are looking up, go long.
HV is a skin effect and defeating it is simple enough. Routing the charge to ground with a heel strap is part of anti-static tactics commonly used in electronics manufacturing now.
The only difficulties I see are figuring out how to incorporate the fiber in a non-obtrusive method after the clothing has been produced.

There is cloth that has the filaments/conductor already embedded…
Some people use it to line bags as a faraday cage, etc…
The big deal is avoiding the prongs. A BP Vest seems to work, but then you still have to ensure that the prongs are making contact with the grounding system… Not impossible to do, but there are some caveats.
A company called Spectral Armor is planning to do something with this idea…

I just launched a post about this on a couple of message boards that cater to the chainmaille community. Thought it would be interesting to see what other maillers thought of the idea and if anyone’s already tried it…
