Another AG on board for Heller

This time, in VA:

Virginia is the third state to sign on to the friend-of-the-court brief

Anyone heard from Tennessee’s AG? You can pester him here.

There was never a doubt in my mind he would.

The man has political ambitions in this state, and he knows he won by less than 100 votes (at the time the closest election in VA history, IIRC). His competitor in that race was a Democrat with an A+ rating from NRA who got the endorsement. Considering that competitor just announced he is running for Governor the other day, McDonnell is trying to create enough pro-gun creds to keep an endorsement from being issued in the future gubernatorial race between the two.

I’m happy McDonnell signed on, and I like that he went after Mike Bloomberg with threats of legal action, however, Creigh Deeds (the Dem) was a leader for gun rights before the close race and before he had public plans to run for Governor. I respect that more, and I will cast my vote accordingly.

Excellent news! I wrote him when War on Guns first propposed the campaign and had only heard from a secretary that my request was being “forwarded to the proper department.” Virginia has great potential in its current political structure to lead the nation in gun rights. Our AG, Lieutenenat Governor and (we hope) current General Assembly all lean towards relaxing the infringements on the Second. Once we vote Kaine out of office we should be in pretty good shape.

Our AG here in Missouri decided a year or so ago that he had aspirations for higher office.

All of a sudden he assigned an assistant to CCW Reciprocity – after having ignored citizens sending him stamped, addressed letters that just needed his signature to get us reciprocity with other states that had expressed willingness. Now the Missouri CCW permit is good in over 30 states.

He announced that he was signing on to the brief after some quiet prompting from the pro-gun folks.

He’s starting to make a case that the anti-gun bits earlier in his career were mandated from above – they were fairly lame and his reputation has been more ‘not a friend of guns’ than ‘rabid anti’. Still, he’s not likely to pull too many pro-gun votes from our solidly pro-gun Gov he’s running against (at least based on this issue).

At least you happen to have an AG right now. Those of us in Kansas kind of seem to have lost ours. (And could possibly not get one before Jan. 31.) Not sure who we should get to support Heller. Our governor (Kathleen Sebelius) probably would be a bad choice though. I get the impression that she doesn’t like the idea of ordinary people having guns.

On a lighter note, someone earlier today put up an E-bay auction for an e-book promising to tell the secret of how to become the next AG of Kansas. It has since been pulled (I’ve got a copy of the page though), but it pretty much suggested in the auction description that all you had to do was pay the governor enough money to convince her to appoint you.

BCross – have you been following the discussions on http://www.ksccw.com re the AG situation?

If you’re a POG (People Of the Gun) and not a member of your state’s CCW board you should join up.

KCSteve – Thanks for the tip. I hadn’t heard of the site before, but they seem to have some pretty good information, and not just about the AG.

Also reminds me that I need to follow up on getting my CCW. I passed the class, but $30k of student loan debt makes my somewhat hesitant to pay the $150 CCW fee. Maybe this month though, since they decided to give state employees (like me) a small bonus this year.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
