Legislating technology
So, why haven’t they passed a law saying cancer must be cured by next year? I mean, since they have no issue legislating pipe dreams.

I was a little young at the time to remember the details and you probably weren’t born yet, but they already tried that.

All it takes to increase the fuel economy is to pass a law. It’s as if they can’t distinguish between a law of physics and a law of man.
Not really a fair criticism, since there are already lots of cars that are close to that fuel efficiency standard, including at least two SUVs.
If you don’t think we can improve by a few MPG in a dozen years, you’re more pessimistic than I would have thought.
For the record, I’m not a big fan of the biofuel provisions of the bill, either, although I would have liked a more aggressive MPG mandate.

My bad on the above comment. Upon a more thorough re-reading, Huffman was criticizing the wording of the reporting about the law with that criticism, not the law itself.
