Actually not that hard to do. As an 07 with SOT, I built a single bbl 20 ga one some time ago by porting the bbl, encasing it in an aluminum tube and using various packing mat’ls between the bbl and the tube. Experimentation is required, of course, but is now sounds like a .22 short. Also, I can run it wet using water soluble oil. It’s a fun toy to play with. Jack. ( Don’t try this at home. It has to be registered with NFA branch ).
There was an article in one of the guns mags last year about a shotgun with a x2 or so extended barrel that was ported over most of its length, which produced a slow bleed of gases that resulted in significant sound reduction. Developed as a quiet shotgun by a crow shooter, whose favorite shooting spots had become developed over the last few years, the gun was being marketed as an urban shotgun, suitable for use by wildlife agents in eradicating geese from city ponds, etc…

I have been seeing a lot of these lately. Do you think it is because of the movie “No Country for Old Men?”

I wonder if I haven’t found a use for all that extra barrel on the saiga-12.

JimW — A LOT of porting is required. (at the expense of velocity). Jack.
