Guns in bars bill
Looks like the senate passed the bill overwhelmingly:
The state Senate passed a bill today to allow gun carry permit holders to take their firearms into bars.
The bill passed 24-6. The permit holder carrying the gun into a place that serves alcohol is not allowed to consume alcohol under the legislation.
Rob is right, though. Naifeh will kill it like he has for about four years now. Says Rob:
It is a serious failure on the part of pro-firearm groups that Jimmy Naifeh hasn’t been politically removed from the Speaker’s chair.
Ayup.

Naifeh would have been gone a long time ago, had he not gerrymandered the south end of Tipton county (overwhelmingly prior military/not Democrat)over to Fayette county’s Rep.
On one hand, I don’t mind having a retired Marine LTC and NRA life member as my rep, but the other hand rears its ugly head over things like this.

When this bill has come up before, I think it specified restaurants that serve alcohol rather than “guns in bars”. I would think this current bill does as well and would not include allowing carry permit holders to go into places which are primarily bars for alcohol consumption as oppposed to establishments which primarily serve food and also alcohol.
Of course, this whole idea is absurd. Carry permit holders are certifiably (TBI and FBI background check) law-abiding citizens and the permit law does not allow the weapon carrier to partake period. “Guns in bars” for dangerous and criminal acts can happen NOW for those who break laws–criminals.
Furthermore, the Declaration of Rights (Article I, Section 26) of the State Constitution protects the RIGHT of a citizen to keep and CARRY arms for self-defense. The State is acting illegally in denying that right. Restaurants that serve alcohol (or any establishment open to the public) would still be free to post their “no guns” signs which are then State enforced—as though criminals would honor them……NOT!

If I remember correctly, it says you may carry anywhere alcohol is served for on premisis consumption as long as the business isn’t posted. It is primarily aimed at restaurants but the anti-gun crowd refers to it as the guns in bars bill. Unless progunners in the House can somehow force a rollcall vote, Naifeh will do everything he can to kill it (as he did last year).
