Not smart

I dunno, but I think when my AK caught fire, I’d stop shooting it.

Well there went a good chunk of money down the drain. Hope he felt it was worth it.

I get a giggle out of the peace sign comment about 173,000 Americans dying from gunshots every year.

Yah, I saw that not too long ago and thought the same thing.

Wonder how that would have worked with plastic handguards…

  3. Madrocketscientist Says:

So what exactly caught fire on that thing?

  4. nk Says:

Looked like the handguard. The AK has always seemed like a bullet waster to me, like the second generation submachine guns of WWII, but a little more powerful. The Israelis tried to make a silk purse out of the sow’s ear with the Galil, using Finnish receivers and American barrels, but in the end they wised up and went to the M16 which can send a bullet mostly where you aim it.

What dufus. I especially like how he sweeps the camera man with the muzzle at the end of the video.

  6. Rabbit Says:

I’ve seen a couple of AK’s light off the wooden handguards. It was because they were oil/cosmoline soaked and the heat from continuous firing melted the cosmo and flashed it off. Charred, flaming handguards will occur after you’re pretty well runied the barrel and rifling.

If this happens, it’s either a stunt or because the operator is an absolute idiot. I know what I consider the person in the video.

    Regards,
    Rabbit.

How about a stunt done by a absolute idiot? That’s my vote.

I didnt giggle, I busted up laughing! Whatta maroon!

Yah, the handguards on AK’s have been known to go up in flames. Also, there are little metal pins that hold the handguards on. They apparently come in contact with the barrel and if you touch them after sending off a mag or 2 you WILL find out what pain means.

  9. Kevin Baker Says:

Don’t you remember? Setting the handguard on fire was a “badge of honor,” according to the AK/AR/Mosin comparison guide.

nk: For several years, the best groups (there were several) that I’d ever fired using iron sights were from an AK. Granted it was a nice Russian heavy-barrel Vepr. But then I also own a Colt AR-15 HBAR. Just sayin’. Oh– they ranged form 1.25 to 1.75 inches at 100. Three shots each. Come to think of it, I’ve never done better than that with iron sights with any rifle. But then, some of my better rifles don’t have iron sights. Anyway, human eyesight wouldn’t allow much better.

Anyone can be a dumbass with an AK, and I’ll bet anyone could be a dumbass with a multi-thousand dollar rifle too. It’s just that dumbasses tend not to have a lot of money, what with them being dumbasses and all. The fact that a dumbass owns an AK doesn’t mean the AK is only for dumbasses. I’d like to think that a rational observer could seperate the rifle from the user.

At least the thing kept running.
I have seen folks run guns to destruction for little reason other than curiosity. FN’s, M16’s, Mini14’s, and so forth just trying to “see what happens”.
Once at Knob Creek I was on the line next to a person who shot his MAG58 to the point where the orange white barrel split before the gas cylinder failed and stopped the gun.
In any event, this guy looked drunk and is an embarrassment.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
