I listened to a report on the radio last night. It turns out the database wouldn’t give an exact match to a certain gun, but instead spit out thousands of “possibles” that were “statistically probable” matches. Those would have to be examined by humans, one by one. The man-hours of doing that task alone would eat up an entire police force.
