Another school shooting

The NYT:

A gunman infiltrated a Jewish seminary in Jerusalem and opened fire in a library Thursday night, killing at least seven people, officials said.

Rescue workers said at least 10 people were wounded. Government spokesman Daniel Seaman and police said there was only one gunman though initial reports said there were two.

And:

Yitzhak Dadon, a seminary student, said he was armed with a rifle and waited on the roof of a nearby building during the attack.

“He came out of the library spraying automatic fire. … The terrorist came to the entrance and I shot him twice in the head,” he said.

Not the first time either.

But, remember, if you think allowing the law-abiding to carry weapons at schools is a good idea, you’re crazy.

Note: This occurred in Israel, a certified police state.

I read the article yesterday, from a headline on Drudge.com, and noted that the person who stopped the shooting was a student.

In the afternoon, National Public Radio had two segments on the shooting within half an hour of each other. The first identified the person who stopped the terrorist as a “soldier” and the second identified him as a “policeman.”

Why the distinction? Was the seminary student a reservist with his rifle nearby? Or a student who was also a policeman? Or was he simply an armed seminary student?

This might, in a perverse way applicable only to US liberal media, fall under the “Only Ones” category used on another blog…..

Because the police and military are the only ones competent enough to have stopped an armed shooter like this, if you can’t believe that an adult, legally armed student could have done it.

Israel has National Service (I think), so probably is a soldier. There’s no telling how well trained he is, though.

(The “Hardal” religious group apparently has its own brigade in the IDF that doesn’t use conscription to recruit soldiers. So, it’s kind of hard to tell.)

A “police state” that allows it’s citizens to be armed? Where students openly carry rifles on a campus? That dos’nt sound like any “police state” I ever heard of but if I’m wrong then please enlighten me.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
