It was widely reported that the Violence Policy Center had a federal firearms license. Looks like they renewed it.
And it’s like a big concert with people lining up 40 hours in advance.
Says the Geek: With grotesque rulings such as Kelo in our recent history, there’s certainly some cause for trepidation.
Sebastian took some of the good guys out for dinner. Pics here.
The court will release the tapes.
Interesting times for gun rights ahead.

Gun injuries soar as police ‘experts’ blast themselves and colleagues by mistake
The number of armed police officers accidentally shooting themselves – and other colleagues – has soared in the past five years.
Now, nearly half of all injuries caused by police shootings are the result of officers blasting themselves or a colleague, often during bungled training and demonstrations.
Learn and follow the rules, guys.

Reader Tim emails his snazzy new Kahr 40:
Once again, caught part two of the show. Pretty good bit, I thought. Noted ATF lacks testing standards and that all tests of firearms are not videotaped. They mentioned a bill (HR1791??) that seeks to establish standards and require videotaping of ATF testing. Said that next week, they’d talk to NRA and a couple of Congressmen. Good.
Heh. I win. Even deleting my comments that thrash his point. But I’m the paranoid one!
Oh, and my ISP is charter.com. But, just like his government, it’s inconvenient so he shuts it down. The difference between citizens and subjects, I guess.
I called the wife yesterday and tell her that we left the front door open all night. I happened to walk by and saw it was unlocked. She asks when we would have opened it last night. And I said I thought her and Junior came in that way yesterday. They had not. We figure it had been open since Tuesday morning when the Mrs. talked to our lawn maintenance guys.
But remember, I’m paranoid.
Reader ELB Online emails this link with a report on the shooting. The police were there and left just before the shooting. And the shooter used smoke bombs?
AC got fired from his blog at WRKN. Between this and Brittney’s resignation, WKRN is useless to me.
Hopefully, he’ll pick up at his own site.
BTW, AC’s blog was the best source for local political info.
Mentioned here. The ammo maker said it was their fault:
The company that manufactures the ammunition for the .45-caliber GAP Glock Model 37 is taking responsibility for guns exploding during two separate training incidents, slightly injuring a Winter Haven police officer and a former police cadet.
A spokesman for Speer Gold Dot, the manufacturer of the ammunition, said Thursday that a batch of bullets sent to the Winter Haven department was defective.
Speer Gold Dot said after the first incident in January 2007 it recalled the bullets sent to Winter Haven but that some of the ammunition remained at the department and was used when the second incident occurred earlier this year.
Winter Haven Police Chief Mark LeVine confirmed Thursday that Speer Gold Dot had recalled the bullets after the first failure. He said some of the ammunition was kept unknowingly and a bullet from that batch was involved in the second explosion.
Tam in the comments section at the aforementioned Aussies crapping their pants about guns in America:
I don’t really feel particularly threatened by anything; statistically speaking, I’ve pretty much experienced all the crime I’m ever going to experience if I stay away from bad neighborhoods after dark. So I don’t feel the need to own a gun for protection from baddies or terrorists or invading armies.
I feel the need to own guns because my doing so bugs the hell out of hippies halfway around the world so much that they write essays about it.
Cheers, mate!
Heh. And their beer sucks.
He’s out of the race so I no longer have to use 1337!
Recently we’ve been told that this increase in the already intolerable invasion of our privacy was justified because the purpose was to apprehend terrorists. We were told that the massive amounts of information being collected on Americans would only be used to root out terrorists. But as we can see today, this monitoring of private activities can also be used for political reasons. We should always be concerned when the government accumulates information on innocent citizens.
Spitzer was brought down because he legally withdrew cash from a bank–not because he committed a crime. This should prompt us to reassess and hopefully reverse this trend of pervasive government intrusion in our private lives.
We need no more Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act! No more Violent Radicalization & Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Acts! No more torture! No more Military Commissions Act! No more secret prisons and extraordinary rendition! No more abuse of habeas corpus! No more PATRIOT Acts!
Indeed.
And, now watch closely, as I will quickly pull a Spitzer pun from thin air:
Spitzer pulls out!

It must be true! Else world views shatter. And your bigotry is showing. Via Rusty, who addresses the various projections.
KAG asks if Elliot Spitzer was local:
Where would he have gone for his “needs?” Magnolia Avenue? One of the “spas” on Alcoa Highway? Do “high end” call girl services exist in the greater Knoxville metropolitan area?
Well, they shut down the spa on Alcoa highway. I always got a kick out of those when I traveled a lot for business. I’d get in from a late flight at the airport, start the drive home, look over and see that the spas were open. At 2:00 in the morning. And I’d laugh. Rumor was, authorities looked the other way even though they knew what was happening there. Then something happened and they got shut down.
Then, I recall in college, a friend of mine telling me that there was a brothel in The Fort. No idea if that was true or not.
But I don’t think either of those qualified as “high end”.
Chris Lugo, who is a candidate for Senate, proposes a Department of Peace. No, really.
Ok, you’ve probably read the story about the chick whose ass was fused to the toilet for some period of time (one month to two years, depending on the source). Well, the local law is bringing charges against the boyfriend for, err, honestly I have no idea why. Apparently, if it’s unusual, it must also be illegal.
Mentioned it yesterday. Here’s a link to the video. Now, we’ll have to tune in tomorrow night for the dramatic conclusion.
Haven police are getting rid of their Glock pistols in 45GAP:
The Police Department is ditching $38,000 worth of guns after two .45-caliber GAP Glock Model 37 pistols exploded in separate training incidents a year a part, causing minor injuries to an officer and a cadet.
Now, it’s time to get my Bill Frist on and diagnose this issue without, you know, even being close to the offending weapons. We know that Glocks of the 40 caliber variety have been known to go Kaboom when using non-jacketed ammo. A couple reasons for this: 1) is that the 40 caliber Glocks weren’t designed to be 40 caliber. They just slapped a 40 caliber barrel in a 9mm. 2) Glock barrels don’t react well to lead build up. This can be eliminated by using jacketed ammo.
But that doesn’t help the 45GAP issue. The 45GAP round was designed by Glock. I wonder if their pistols that fire this caliber are based on an existing frame or if they made a new pistol from the ground up? Personally, I stick to Glocks in 9mm and 45ACP because I know they were designed from the ground up to shoot those calibers. Anyhoo, on to the knowns:
The force of the explosions came down through the bottom of the guns and blew the triggers off, LeVine said.
My SWAG is a case rupture. After all, when Glocks go kaboom, the blast usually goes the other direction. More:
The first incident occurred in January 2007 when a Glock exploded while being used by Jean-Louis, a former cadet the department was sponsoring at the Polk Community College Kenneth C. Thompson Institute of Public Safety, which trains prospective police officers.
Department officials dismissed the incident as the fault of bad ammunition, and so did Glock.
I would concur, based on what I’ve read. However, they had another kaboom and two officers in Oregon also experienced Glock 45GAP kabooms.
Thoughts?
Update: In comments, Tam has some answers.
Over at The Gun Shots, Slaton White tells us. Though the piece ends with:
For obvious reasons, sales of the SCAR are restricted to law enforcement agencies and the military.
That runs counter to what I’ve heard which is that there will be a civilian version.
We can’t even get it right for planes much less civil rights.
This stupid bill has popped up again. It will never pass but we should reiterate the tactics of our opponents simply run counter to concepts like civil rights and due process of law. I would do that but everyone else did it yesterday:
Jay:
Remember the cries of outrage when people found their names on terrorist watch lists and weren’t allowed to board planes? The ACLU has a page here that discusses it and even filed suit in 2004 challenging the no fly list.
But what about when it comes to guns? Well, Senator Frank Lautenberg and Representative Peter King don’t give a rats ass about constitutional protections then. They’re sponsoring a bill that would prevent the people on terrorist watch lists from purchasing firearms even if they are legally allowed to do so.
Of course, not all people on there have funny names. (Is there something funny about Robert Johnson?) But, it’s one more reason why this list should never be used to deny people rights or presume they are guilty. I can assure you that if Congressman Don Young (who, according to the ACLU’s website, is on the list) gets his guns taken from him because they don’t know how to appropriately filter records at Homeland Security, he’s not going to be a very pleasant guy to be around.
If Bush were doing this, and not doing it to gun owners, the left would be outraged.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
