Stop trying to kill yourself or I’ll shoot!
I don’t think suicide prevention involves killing someone before they kill themselves. No, really.
Update: Yes, I know he had a gun but still . . .

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

In defense of the tacticool ninjas, and I don’t do this often, these goons will usually try suicide by cop, and they aren’t above shooting a cop to make sure it happens.

Yup. And with hostages at stake, I’m not going to second-guess their actions. Personally, if someone wants to commit suicide by cop, I don’t really have a problem with the cops obliging them.

+1, we all know it doesn’t take long for a gun in a holster to be pointing on target, a gun in the hand pointed at a head can be turned that much faster.
This guy was as much a danger to others as he was to himself.

“…if someone wants to commit suicide by cop, I don’t really have a problem with the cops obliging them.”
Well, frankly I do. If someone wants to suicide, then they should do themselves. Forcing police to do what they don’t have the courage to do, forces those officers to have to take that killing along with them the rest of their lives. If you want to kill yourself, then show one act of courage in your life and kill your self. It is your right. Causing the police to have to kill you is cowardly and selfish.
In this situation, we don’t know what prompted the shooting. Perhaps his gun swung from his head toward the police or the hostage. Obviously, the SWAT officers tried to end the hostage situation. They would have been blamed if they’d just waited for him to put a bullet in his head. As it turns out, they tried but the situation turned and they apparently had to fire to protect themselves or the hostage. I’m going with that scenario unless the investigation reveals something different.

SayUncle, you are way out of line with your snark here. That guy presented an immediate deadly threat to his hostages and anyone else within bullet range. If in fact he was suicidal, that shows he was not rational and cuts towards doing something now versus waiting for him to do something rash that might or might NOT involve just himself. Cops should NOT have to conduct a mental health exam on the spot and prescribe different actions because the guy is loony. Imminent deadly threat is just that, and needs to be dealt with. This is not a case of some rogue cops faking a drug deal and busting down a little old lady’s doors. This was cops doing what they were supposed to.
To reiterate: if you think the cops did something wrong here, based on the info in that article, you are seriously screwed up.

I dunno but from the video it looked like he got shot while trying to shoot himself.
