Not getting it
NRA’s opposition is misguided
Requiring the reporting of lost guns would hurt only criminals.
You see, your bill is just stupid. It puts a burden on a gun owner where one did not exist before. Your bill merely has potential to turn the law-abiding into criminals and nothing more. Try a bill that targets those who break the law not those who abide by it.
And your bill won’t accomplish anything.

Gun owners in western PA are targeting him in the general election there.

These are VERY dangerous laws that would criminalize gun owners when full registration and confiscation are enacted. They are playing several moves ahead on the chess board.

I really hate bills like this.
They are bad news for those of us who aren’t even sure how many guns we have off the tops of our heads. I mean, I could have a couple of Smiths or old bolt actions go missing and might not even notice for a month or two.

Gun control: You’re doing it wrong.

I have an idea that will allow him to press forward with this bill with only a minor change in wording. Require the thief to report he has stolen a gun within 72 of the theft.
Then this jackass is targeting the proper people. Bet you he wouldn’t go for it.

But…but…Straightarrow that would violate his 5th Amendment rights against self incrimination…

“And your bill won’t accomplish anything.”
It would accomplish its intended (if not stated) purpose– harassment of American gun owners:
