I loved when Colbert was going after Helmke with a knife and Helmke’s solution if tripping failed was to appeal to Colbert’s rational side.
I fail to see what appeal one might make to say a mugger who has rationally determined that if he threatens you with a knife, you will give him all your money.
However, were you armed, you can appeal to their rational side. The one that rationally determines that dying ain’t no way to make a living.
And more importantly, if the assailant is irrational, you can appeal to their physiology and anatomy. A shot to their chest beat two blows to their delusions every time.

Thanks for posting that link. That was very funny. Helmke looked mildly stunned by the end. I wonder how informed he was of the stunt.
