Huh?
A ridiculous law has been proposed:
Legislation that seeks to keep imitation firearms out of the hands of minors passed the state House.
The measure sponsored by Rep. John DeBerry, a Memphis Democrat, was approved 63-29 on Thursday. The companion bill unanimously passed the Senate in February.
Both chambers must now work out differences in the bill before it’s sent to the governor for his consideration.
DeBerry’s bill would require a person who is not 18 years old to get permission from a parent or legal guardian to purchase an imitation weapon, which he says are nearly identical in size, design and color to real ones.
And next, are we going to have pretend background checks that you’ll be disqualified from for committing toy crimes?

“Hey, kid, you’ll shoot your eye out!” is the first thing that comes to mind whenever I read one of these stories….
Seriously, the purpose appears to be the demonization of firearms. First, a parental permission will be required to allow a kid to have a toy gun. Then when the other parents start hyperventilating that they are opposed to having Johnny play with his toy gun around little Julie and Jasper, the rule will change to “no toy guns allowed at all.”

Yep, you gotta start the indoctrination earlier and earlier these days….

Sounds asinine. But maybe not, if he is talking about “replica” guns, which are not toys any more than a good air rifle. Back in the Seventies I owned a couple of these, made in Japan (which does not allow private guns, at all, so collectors buy replicas) and which came with a US Federal certificate to the effect that they were not real, could not chamber or fire, etc. Looked very indistinguaishable from real weapons, even disassembled much the same, and fake ammo was available. I would not carry it around openly displayed (hey, I was living in Taxachusetts!) for fear of being drawn on by some poor cop.
