We’re winning
Lawmakers who favor gun control are not optimistic about next year even though Democrats may be running Congress and the White House.
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), the sponsor of legislation that would reinstate the expired federal assault weapons ban, dismissed the idea that her bill might pass in the 111th Congress.
“It’s a pro-gun House, a pro-gun Senate and [Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) or Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.)] won’t want to deal with it,” McCarthy said.
McCarthy stressed that she is not giving up on reauthorizing the weapons ban that sunsetted in 2004, but also made clear she is not holding her breath.

Please Carolyn, hold your breath.

I’m not buying it, frankly. I know there were 250 members of the House that signed on to the pro-Heller amicus brief. I also know that those Democrats who signed on are going to be under a boatload of pressure to “go along with the agenda”, and for both Clinton and Obama, that agenda includes support for a semi-auto ban.
I’m not saying it wouldn’t be an ugly intra-party fight, because it would, but if the leadership is serious about passing it then they can try to bully the Blue Dogs via committee assignments and other perks.

I’m not that certain we’re winning. I keep getting one of those feelings you sometimes get just before someone hits you with a sucker punch. My take is that they are just biding their time, and looking for ways to do runarounds when we are not expecting, from an angle we might not have covered.
Just my opinion.

No mention how she apperently knows nothing about this subject and how a google search of her name produces “The Shoulder thing that goes up” video on the first page…
We’re definetly winning, but of course it doesn’t mean we’ve won.

What, last I hear both Hillary and Obama wants a new AWB and all 3 want to close the so called gunshow loophole. There will be fights over gun control bills no matter who gets the presidency.

Gee, I wish she would…

Geez, talk about “desperately clinging” to a lost cause…

McCarthy’s primary job, like that of ALL other elected officials, is to obey the Constitution and protect liberty. STOP the invasion of our country! Leave us and our guns alone!
And IF they want to get “assault weapons” off the street, then take the militarized police off the streets and re-assign them to the Border Patrol…where they can do us some good!

The anti gun rights politicians should also keep in mind that they are setting themselves up for possible criminal charges in the future. Things can and do change. It may take years, but it can happen. They’re breaking the law right now. It’s a matter of getting the right prosecutor to go after them.

I believe the next Congress will be more anti-gun and very pro gun-control. To believe otherwise is wishful thinking.
