Take not counsel of your fears, rather rise up and overcome them.
The 2nd Amendment is now enshrined as guaranteeing an individual right to self defense. All other lawsuits can build upon that.
The night riders weren’t defeated with one court ruling. The Klan lost ground slowly, state by state, over a 100 year period, until they started losing the very buildings they owned in lawsuits by those they terrorized.
Similarly, now that it is settled law that an individual right to self defense is enshrined in the US Constitution, we can work on all the myriad aspects of state and federal law that infringe upon that right.
Open carry nationwide? Reciprocity for CCW nationwide? Open carry in automobiles? Any licensing scheme must become “shall issue”? Restrictive licensing seen as prohibitive of exercise of the right?
I also think the “commonly used” basis for ownership argument will fall upon the first legal challenge to reach the Supreme Court, where it will be recognized that any individual weapon is legal, as long as it is not used to illegally threaten or harm another. This would be analogous to the First Amendment right for Neo-Nazis to hold marches in Skokie, IL, which while despicable to some, most, well, essentially ALL persons other than the marchers, is part and parcel of our individual freedoms and rights as citizens of this great country.
And anybody calling Godwin’s Law on me : referring to actual court cases and their outcome is not comparing anything or anyone to Nazis.
