FN SCAR
Looks like some military operators are testing:
“This rifle is awesome,” said one Special Forces operator who, like the rest of the Green Berets in this interview, declined to be named for security reasons. “It’s spot on.”

I’m very excited by the SCAR-H (the 7.62 NATO version). Dry with iron sights but without a magazine, it’s 7.2 lbs, the same weight as the Styer Scout (and achieves this in the same way, plastic furniture, aluminum receiver, thin hammer forged barrel). I have mild RSI from too many years of programming and that’ll make a difference. In fact, as far as I can tell, if the trigger is good, it’ll out of the box be a semi-auto Scout except for missing a middle attachment point for Ching Sling.
The folding stock is not for firing that way but so that it’ll fit in a specific military gear bag. It does one MOA,and retains that through barrel changes (with the iron sights … windage at minimum is done with the front sight). SCAR-H barrel lengths are 13, 16 and 20 inches.
And FNH has (re-)discovered that the US civilian market is big and more reliable than the military market. They are officially surprised by the sales of the PS90, have worked with first Fiocchi USA and now ATK (e.g. Federal) to insure a good supply of its 5.7mm ammo, and don’t give a [explitive deleted] about the gun grabbers screaming about this new “cop killer bullet”.
FN has been selling to US civilians for most of a century, the oldest Auto-5 my family owns has FN markings (John Browning worked with them a lot after his relationship with Winchester fell apart, ironically, both of those US companies are now owned by the same holding company that owns FNH).
US civilian availability for the SCAR-H is projected for next year, SCAR-L (5.56 NATO) this year, the military’s requirements of course come first. SCAR-Ls with semi-auto triggers have been shown to and shot by various gun writers.
The Wikipedia article on it is excellent, and provides you with a bunch of links for more info.

Ugly it is, but what counts is what it can do and how rugged and reliable it is. The British Lee-Enfields are butt ugly too but you cant beat them for ruggedness and reliabilty.
It dos’nt have to be pretty, it just needs to whupp ass! 🙂
