One of the many reasons why one should never, ever say, “I’m gonna kill you!” Once you say that, all bets, rules, and laws are off.
I believe that policemen, even, are cautioned not to say that to people they arrest, seeing that one’s right to self-defense of his life is never legally extinguished unless and until he has been lawfully condemned to death.

P.s. A corollary: Don’t ever drink so much that you might fail to resist the temptation to tell somebody, “I’m gonna kill you!”
