Three guns
Kim has more suggestions for survival guns on a budget.
My opinion is basically to forgo the shotgun altogether. You’re typically not going to want to carry two long guns in a Just In Case scenario. I’d probably advise spending $150-200 on a used SKS. Then another $150-200 on a decent used revolver, such as a Charter or Taurus. YMMV.

SKS, with 1000 or so hollow point, DW .357 in 6″ barrel and a .380 when neither is in reach. Should be able to allow sneak and peak to get to somewhere more defendable, should the need arise.

I’d just get a Ruger 10/22 with a red dot and a bunch of mags, and then a decent .357/9mm/.40 S&W/.45 ACP pistol.
It’s a tool kit, so as long as I can run the gun effectively, caliber isn’t that important.

Do they make new ones?

No. SKS is a former commmunist block military issue rifle. Shoots the same round as the AK-47 and the M14. Was orginal in WWII in the russain army and then licensed to several of the satellites. Yugo are considered to be better that the Chinese versions. None are considered to be overly accurate. They will however almost always go bang and have resonable accuracy out to 300 meters (yds) or so.

The SKS and AK-47 shoot the 7.62×39, the M14 shoots 7.62×51 NATO. A few prototype SKSs saw service in WW2, but it wasn’t adopted until 1949.

My bad. I had heard some boys in the box where using AK-47 rounds in M14 and not having issues, although that report must have been false.
