Obama picks Biden

It is clear the Democrats understand nothing about politics. This may be the worst VP choice in history. Good luck with any cross over voters.

He chose poorly.

Did no one else want the job?

The polls right now show Obama ahead by 1.6%. How many points will Obama lose from this very dumb choice? 5%? 10%?

The only question left is how did Karl Rove do this?

Rove hell, it is Bill Clinton who is the magnificent bastard on this one.

Here is a pic of him reacting to the news.

    Hillary 2012!

  2. Adam Lawson Says:

I don’t know much about Biden other than the fact he’s a smarmy prick. That kind of fits with Obama, though. So at least now I can call the campaign names without being racist, right? Or will I be a self-hating-white-racist?

Honestly though, other than the plagiarizing and constant foot-in-mouth syndrome, I can’t think of anything specific about Biden.

  3. Metulj Says:

I don’t think it’s “the worst choice ever.” That would be that bastard with the bad ticker in his man sized fault. I can’t imagine why on earth Obama would pick this guy. Like I’ve said elsewhere (# 9 can back me up), this helps McCain NOT go dirty (which would have been the only way he has a chance of winning this thing). All McCain has to do is this: “Obama says this. Biden says this. Now what the fuck does Obama/Biden say?”

  4. Weisenheimer Brainstorm Says:

Ima thinking that if McCain picks Palin, he helps consolidate his base and peels off a not insignificant percentage of Hillary! supporters. Also, because McCain needs to consolidate his base I think he’ll go all mavericky and pick someone with slightly less conservative cred than Barney Frank.

Transcript Fourth Democratic Debate Published: July 24, 2007

The eight candidates vying to be the Democratic nominee for president in the 2008 elections answered questions submitted by CNN and YouTube users in a debate. Participants: Senator Joseph Biden, Jr. (D-De)….

QUESTION: Good evening, America. My name is Jered
    Townsend from Clio, Michigan.

To all the candidates, tell me your position on gun
control, as myself and other Americans really want to
know if our babies are safe.

This is my baby, purchased under the 1994 gun
ban. Please tell me your views.

    Thank you.

Someone named Brad at Of Arms and the Law commented that:

The rifle displayed was an AR type with a plain muzzle and
of the variety sometimes referred to as a ‘post-ban
rifle’. In other words the rifle in question was fully
compliant with the 1994 federal “assault weapon” ban.

Savor the irony of Senator Biden having a fit over a
gunnie who owns a ‘Biden law’ rifle! That incident speaks
volumes about the ignorance and hostility of Biden, who
lusts for the power to rule over us.

    Back to the debate:

    [ Richardson’s response. ]

COOPER: Senator Biden, are you going to be able to keep
    his baby safe?

BIDEN: I’ll tell you what, if that is his baby, he needs
    help.

Really in touch with the common man (he makes a big deal
about being not well off while growing up).

    (APPLAUSE)

I think he just made an admission against self-interest.
I don’t know that he is mentally qualified to own that
    gun. I’m being serious.

Yep, he really hates us, but unlike The One was up front
about it in the primary. This high level of disrespect
actually got some notice at the time (see below).

Look, just like me, we go around talking about people
who own guns. I am the guy who originally wrote the
assault weapons ban, that became law, and then we got
defeated and then Dianne Feinstein went to town on it
    and did a great job.

BIDEN: Look, we should be working with law enforcement,
right now, to make sure that we protect people against
people who don’t — are not capable of knowing what to
do with a gun because they’re either mentally imbalanced
and/or because they have a criminal record, and…

And by his definition, I’m sure all of us are mentally
“imbalanced”—that’s a particularly wide net to case, as
the phrase is used. And a bit chilling in the context of
McCarthy’s somewhat successful efforts in this area.

    COOPER: Time.

    BIDEN: Anyway…

    (APPLAUSE)

COOPER: We got one more question. Before…

BIDEN: … I hope he doesn’t come looking for me.

Could not resist getting in one last shot….

At the time, Michelle Malkin noted:

The Smirk from Delaware & the Second Amendment

    A Democratic gun-owner-bashing YouTube moment.

    By Michelle Malkin

Sen. Joe Biden is the embodiment of snide. Snide is the
embodiment of the left-wing attitude toward gun owners. So
when snide Joe Biden confronted a YouTube user who asked
Democrat presidential candidates about gun control during
a debate Monday night, what unfolded was a Teachable
YouTube Moment — the caught-on-tape embodiment of
ideological snideness toward the Second Amendment and
    those who defend it.

    […]

And as she notes, come election time their attitude is
likely to bite them, although I suppose The One has
… decided he’s already won the election???. Here’s an
    interesting survey finding:

    August 9, 2008

    Obama’s gun problem

    By James Warner ()

Barak Obama has a problem. It is a problem that has
plagued Democrats for years. It lost the 1988 election for
Michael Dukakis. It lost the 2000 election for Al Gore. It
probably lost the 2004 election for John Kerry. It lost
control of Congress for 12 years for Democrats. It could
lose the 2008 election for Obama. The problem is
guns. Democrats know that they have this problem. They
don’t know how to respond to it.

Several years ago I saw the results of a survey that was
privately conducted. The Survey showed that for 7 million
to 10 million voters the protection of the private
ownership of firearms was the first and most important
factor in deciding how to vote. Since the founding of the
National Weapon Association in 1871, only one candidate
for president had the backing of the NRA and lost:
Winfield Scott Hancock who lost to James Garfield in the
    very close election of 1880.

The author then goes on to talk about how the “single event
which made this drift a cascade: the ban on so called
‘assault weapons'”, which Biden takes credit for writing:

The general public, many liberal politicians and the
political police chiefs obviously did not know [ that the
AW ban was basically cosmetics—except the author forgets
about the new > 10 round magazine ban, which would have
eventually bit us hard, and certainly put a damper on new
gun designs ]. Gun owners, however, were only too well
aware of the hoax and the purpose behind it. They knew
that it was the camel’s nose under the tent and reacted
furiously, voting the Democrats out of power. They have
not forgotten and do not trust Democrats, even if the
Democrats say that they are not anti-gun. Unless Barak
Obama fixes this, he could lose the election.

Picking Biden shows he doesn’t care about the issue, or expects to win without the votes of 7-10 million single issue voters on this, and all the ones who factor it in as well. Does he believe all the young he’s getting registered will stick with him and vote in the fall? Note that you can’t gerrymander the nation, nor is he likely to be able to get McCain removed from the ballot as he did for all his opponents in his first election in Chicago. We’ll see if Chicago Rules works for the rest of the country….

  6. Rustmeister Says:

Biden, he really represents “change”, doesn’t he?

  7. Captain Holly Says:

Have no fear, there are plenty of ways McCain can screw this up. He can still pick Lieberman or Hillary herself.

If he does, it will cause me to seriously wonder if he really does want to be president, or if he just likes to campaign for president.

  8. Jay Says:

    I like Sarah Palin.

    http://wizbangblog.com/images/2008/05/alaska_gov_sarah_palin_to_meet_with_mccain_vp_search_team/sarah-palin-thumb.jpg

Fiscal conservative, lifetime NRA member, and she can be a draw for disaffected Hillary supporters.

    Plus she’s kinda hot.

  9. Peter Says:

What, Obama wasn’t sure I wouldn’t vote for him so he decided to put a few more nails in the coffin?

McCain better not screw this up. He’ll be bad as it is, especially if he picks Norman The Mormon as his veep, but, well *better* isn’t the word, I guess less sucky would cover it.

  10. #9 Says:

All McCain has to do is this: “Obama says this. Biden says this. Now what the fuck does Obama/Biden say?”

Again, I have to agree. There it is.

Bredesen would have been a brilliant pick in comparison. Does anyone understand the logic of this? Is Howard Dean a double agent?

  11. workinwifdakids Says:

Yeah Obama +1.6% with a, what, 3%+/-? Polls like that kill me. They’re dead even at best, and anything else is tea leaves.

  12. gattsuru Says:

All McCain has to do is this: “Obama says this. Biden says this. Now what the fuck does Obama/Biden say?”

They seem to say pretty much the same thing. On guns, Obama’s a Joyce fanboy and Biden’s got Assault Weapon Ban proudly written all over him. Economically, they’re both pretty harsh collectivists. On abortion, they’re both too far in the NARAL camp to make friends with antiabortion folk, but made enough gaffes to alienate a lot of NARAL voters. He’s typical Democratic on oil and energy.

The biggest difference that I can find is that Biden was for the war before he was against it, but he’s ranted so much against Iraq — even submitted a withdrawal plan through the senate pre-Surge — that I can’t see him taking a middling stance now.

  13. Cactus Jack Says:

“Did no one else want the job?”

That’s a very real possibility. Let’s just hope that McC dos’nt screw the pooch by picking a lamer VP of his own.

  14. #9 Says:

If McCain picks either Sarah Palin or Charlie Crist, this is done. Stick a fork in it done.

The Obama supporters better pray that McCain picks Lieberman. That is the only hope they have. Or Dick Cheney or Darth Vader.

    This was Jimmy Carter stupid.

I said months ago that the only person who could beat Obama was Obama. I was right.

  15. LabRat Says:

I’ve heard speculation from a number of sources that Obama’s first and maybe even second choices told him “thanks but no thanks”. That may be wishful thinking, but it would explain the weird timing.

  16. Letalis Maximus, Esq. Says:

“Did no one else want the job?”

Perhaps. If a guy joins up with Big O and he loses, the most powerful Dems are still…The Clintons. Unless a feller can prove he was the Veep for no other reason that to sabotage Big O, I can see a real downside to having been Barry’s Veep.

Of course, from what we hear Biden hates the Clintons anyway. So he may not give a damn. Plus, he’s a Delaware institution so its not like Bill and Hillary can hurt him much, anyway.

Oh, and the people who said that Hillary ever even wanted to be Obama’s Veep are still very very wrong. And stupid.

  17. Steve Johnson Says:

Don’t worry, according to Wikipedia Uncle Joe teaches constitutional law at Widener University School of Law, so I am sure on June 26 he realized the errors of his ways 😉

  18. Chas Says:

Obama didn’t so much pick a vice presidential candidate as he picked a big, fat, juicy political target. I imagine the folks in Fairfax are grinning from ear to ear, and preparing plans. I wish I were Wayne LaPierre right now. Biden has been one of the ugliest anti-gunners. Obama just stepped in it up to his nose – he just hasn’t smelled it yet.

  19. Jake Says:

While I would love to see Sarah Palin as McCain’s VP pick, I don’t think I will happen. She doesn’t appeal to the middle, or the middle leaning opposition, as much as some others might, and I think that’s what he’s looking for. He’s not worried about his conservative base, although I think he should be. He doesn’t realize how many conservatives are disillusioned with him and the Republican party in general, and are willing to sacrifice this presidential election to make their point.

We need to focus more on congress, anyway. If we can take back congress, with a sufficient majority, the presidency becomes much less important (and much less dangerous). Congress has the lowest approval ratings ever. We probably have a good chance of success, if we focus.

  20. Adam Lawson Says:

Holy crap, I just realized Biden is *that guy* when I saw the youtube video. He’s so otherwise forgettable to me (I mean, really — a national Democrat that hates guns? Which one of them doesn’t?) and I paid so little attention to “the dumb guy that won’t even win one state” that I forgot him.

Wow, Obama really *did* fuck this up.

  21. Justthisguy Says:

McCain needs to console us with a veep of sound principles, who is much younger than he is. I’ll vote for him if he picks a good veep, better than he is, who will take over when he strokes out in office from the inevitable stress. It prolly wouldn’t take much, judging from his anger management issues.

Really, somebody should ask him, “Senator McCain, if you get to be President, whom do you want to be President when you drop dead from an anger-induced sudden stroke of apoplexy?”

  22. Justthisguy Says:

P.s. Hey, he was a Naval Officer, he should be cool with that. They do exercises all the time in which the Captain is suddenly killed and the Exec. has to take command immediately. I believe one of the duties of a commanding officer is to make sure that his second-in-command is ready to step in instantaneously if he is killed.

  23. pawnbroker Says:

we don’t want the net nazis know that we know…but of course this choice was preordained; now the two halves are whole; obama biden (o_ama bi___den) is in fact osama binladen…

  24. Phelps Says:

I’m actually entertaining the idea that both parties know that something horrible is coming and don’t want it to happen on their watch, so they are both trying to throw the election without making it obvious that they have that plan.

If my hypothesis is right, then McCain will pick Lieberman.

  25. Jay Says:

f we can take back congress, with a sufficient majority, the presidency becomes much less important (and much less dangerous).

Jake, I am going to have to respectfully disagree. If John Kerry had been elected in 2004, would John Roberts and Samuel Alito be on the Supreme Court?

With the good possibility that Justices Ginsburg and Stevens could be retiring, we can’t have Obama appointing their replacements.

  26. John Hardin Says:

JustThisGuy: I don’t think naval aviators do that drill…

    Harold: “National Weapon Association”??

    {Crosses fingers for Palin}

  27. Lee Says:

How Sad, the people who just sit on there asses and criticize and bash. Regardless of what you people think…Black, White, Republican or Democrat, if you are not among the wealthy you still had to pay the same price for gas and groceries that I did…Wake up you idiots..If something is broken you fix it..try something or someone different If you do the same things over and over and expect different results then that makes you and idiot.. Vote for something New…Change …Obama

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
