Gustav
Looks like it’s a hurricane and headed toward the coast. Good luck and Godspeed to you folks down there.

I can’t understand why Obama doesn’t take some community organizers down to the LA coast and kick that hurricanes ass!

Good luck to the folks in NO. I’m sure Nagin’s not there with you but my prayers are.

I dunno. I’ve been watching this one. Forecasters constantly predicted a northwest track through the “Yucatan Channel” and instead it wandered all over Haiti, then went south for a while before aiming at western Cuba.
The landfall estimate has been slowly shifting westward for days. Current tracks show a pronounced western hook immediately after landfall. My guess (and I am not a meteorologist!) is that it will finally hit land somewhere along the east Texas coast.
Methinks a media narrative has taken hold where Gustav must be the revisitation of Katrina as a reminder to/chastising of those Evil Republicans ™ who were in charge that day (instead of various local, state and Federal governments, some of which were Democrats or bureaucrats. It’s one of those convenient narratives that lets the media do it the easy way and mine the depths of “oh, those poor people.”

McCain said on TV that it would be inappropriate to celebrate while peoples’ lives were being destroyed, and the convention may be postponed.
