Palm Pistol
Interesting concept here:
The Palm Pistol is an ergonomically innovative single shot double action only defensive firearm chambered in 9mm that may be fired using either hand without regard to orientation of the stock. Suited for home defense, concealed carry or as a backup gun. It is also ideal for seniors, disabled or others who may have limited strength or manual dexterity. Using the thumb instead of the index finger for firing, it significantly reduces muzzle drift, one of the principle causes of inaccurate targeting. Point and shoot couldn?t be easier.
I seem to recall reading that palm pistols were pretty common at one point many decades ago.

I wonder how long until that gets shut down?

Cemetary Gun Blob is correct.
I wrote a post concerning palm pistols last year, a post with plenty of pictures. (I love pictures!) I even discussed the mechanism that allowed it to work.
Anyone interested can find it here.

Only one shot? What if there’s 2 bad guys?

My bet is that the BATFE will classify it as “Any Other Weapon” when it’s time to market it. They have done that with other unusual compact weapons.

There are also actually places where a firearm that doesn’t look like a firearm is prohibited. I swear that the irony of that (it’s a firearm; therefore, that’s what a firearm looks like, at least sometimes…) is totally lost on the legislators, judges and LEOs.

I’m sort of inclined to be discourage it’s use. One of the advantages of having a handgun is that the appropriate display of said handgun is the universally understood hand signal for “Go away!”. The display of the palm pistol will not be so well understood.
But in certain situations and jurisdictions that could be an advantage too.

It seems many folks don’t believe that the ATF classified my design as standard pistol. Care for me to prove it? Give me you email address and I will sent a scanned copy of the approval letter in .pdf format.
