Via Radley, we learn that MADD has outed restaurants that give money to the American Beverage Institute. These are the places that will be getting my money.
MADD has gone from a good cause to, basically, being prohibitionists.

Funny thing, I’ve eaten at just about every one of those restaurants in the last few months, and I managed to not get drunk and kill people with my car. I didn’t even feel the urge to do it. The local franchises must be doing something wrong.

It is creepy how the arguments for prohibitionism, whether it be of drugs, gambling, prostitution, guns, booze, whatever the case may be…kinda run together. Kinda? No, absolutely actually.
My brother the cop said that actually you’d be surprised how little respect LEOs generally have for MADD.

This is just more of the same special (read “selfish”)interests. This group, that group, and the other group all dont like something and insist that what they dont like should be banned.
I believe that selfish interest groups should be banned! 🙂

IIRC, the founder of MADD ended up leaving the group because it started to attract prohibitionists.

Sebastian-PGP, LEO opinions fall into two groups. The majority think that they’ve overdone their cause from Day One, but there’s a solid percentage of DUII officers and those who wannabe DUII officers who follow them slavishly.
Just like there are PSH anti-gunners, a few, among cops, but most of us were very pro-gun, realizing that there goes a HUGE force that might just save one or more of our butts one day….
