Ted Stevens Guilty
Says the AP. Doesn’t much break my heart but it looks like the Dems could move closer to a filibuster-proof senate. And that’s bad.

He’s been a gun rights supporter but people like him have ruined the Republican Party as the home to conservatives and small-government thinking.
If you are guilty, let the cards fall as they may.

If you are guilty, how about getting the * out of the way and let a Good People try for your seat. Thanks, Ted.

May he rot in jail. He should have resigned the moment he was charged in order to give the GOP a chance to nominate someone who might have a chance at winning his seat. BUT NO. May he rot. Slowly. Painfully.

Here’s the kicker, from Colin Powell:
“One of the nation’s best-known retired Army generals, Colin Powell, described Sen. Ted Stevens in court today as a “trusted individual” and a man with a “sterling” reputation.
“He was someone whose word you could rely on,” said Powell, secretary of state in President Bush’s first term, who self-deprecatingly described himself as someone who retired as the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and then “dabbled a bit in diplomacy.”

Since it’s clearly too late for another Republican to get elected in his place, he needs to man up and announce that if he is reelected he will resign after taking office so that a suitable replacement can be voted in. If he was a real man, he’d use his own money and his campaign money to pay for the special election himself.

Thing is if he stalls resigning till after the election, he could resign and if McCain loses, Palin could appoint herself to his senate seat then next term run as an incumbent. Hey!!
