Taxing Birdwatching
Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is looking into it:
But wildlife watching in Tennessee – which doesn’t require a license – is on the rise. TWRA is pitching an idea to tax non-hunters through small fees for trailer license plates, new fees to visit managed lands or by taxing products like bird seed.

It’s not a crazy concept. Hunters and anglers have been footing 100% of the wildlife resources bills for years and then other users bitch and moan when they are allowed to use the land to hunt and/or fish. It does seem fair to make non-hunting/non-fishing users pay their share of the costs. On the other hand, then we have to make sure we’re not being shut out of more land.
