States’ rights

Not applicable in Wyoming:

State officials say a recent court ruling has rendered meaningless a Wyoming law intended to allow people convicted of domestic violence to regain their federal firearms rights.

Daughter of slave to vote for Obama

Ya know, I’m no fan of Obama. But this is still a pretty cool story: We’re within one lifetime (albeit a really long one) of slavery and a black man could be elected president next week.

Innovative

New trend in AK-47 stocks?

Credible?

Some neo-Nazi bone err skin heads decided to try to kill Obama. Ok, more likely, the neo-Nazi shit err skin heads got on Al Gore’s internets and entertained delusions of not being retarded and planned to kill black people and, ultimately, targeting Obama. The ATF was probably perusing stormfront or some other hotbed of racist douchebaggery, caught wind of it and moved in. I’m actually wondering just how credible a threat these two doofuses were? Yeah, they’re just kids but so were those two dipshits from the Columbine shooting. I’m not faulting the authorities for moving in and I do think they did the right thing. But I have to wonder if these two bozos were really a credible threat?

And I have the sticker to prove it

I early voted today. Usually when I early vote, I walk right in and right out. Today, there was a bit of a line. That could indicate higher turnout this election. Beats me.

Also, seems McCain/Palin finally got someone to put out some signs.

I’d tell you how I voted but you could probably guess.

Nothing too exciting to note except that, honestly, can we have paper ballots for those who want them? Folks over the age of 70 aren’t too good on these newfangled voting gizmos. And everyone else has to wait on them. Just sayin’.

Chicks and Guns

Like mother, like daughter.

Transition Team

Jim Shepherd:

The Outdoor Wire has confirmed from confidential sources that the “transition team” for the Democratic candidate has already begun looking into the current approval system for firearms transactions. It seems the digital recordkeeping approval recently granted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has piqued their curiosity. With a virtual Form 4473 in existence, we should be on the lookout for a new record-keeping initiative that will “simplify” the hassles of off-site digital record storage by allowing FFLs to, say, store the information on secure governmental servers. Of course, the government will never access the information.

If true, that’s frightening.

Heh!

Tragic

An 8 year old was killed at a machine gun shoot. A few weeks back, someone was injured at the Knob Creek Machine Gun shoot by shrapnel. Now, I’m as down with machine guns as any gun nut should be but the folks that run these shoots apparently need to be a bit more mindful of safety.

A bit back, I took my seven year old nephews and six year old niece shooting for the first time. We shot cans in the backyard with a pellet gun. Not a micro-uzi. A small child can’t handle the muzzle rise on something like that. I also wouldn’t have taken a handgun or a semi-auto rifle for the same reason. Also, the first time I fired a machine gun, I was about 15 years old (thanks, dad!). I’d already fired many rounds through weapons that weren’t machine guns. And the first magazine I fired through that MP5 was loaded with blanks. I’ve since fired a few more. I still can’t, at 175 pounds and a proper grip, do a magazine dump with an MP5 and maintain muzzle control. To think a child could have has proven fatal. And that’s a tragedy. And, yes, it’s easy to Monday morning quarterback this incident.

When stuff like this happens, politicos are quick to draft dumb laws.

Exploiting tragedy.

Hard to imagine the pain his father must be suffering. But what was he thinking?

Our own worst enemies.

An eight-year old does not have the experience or trigger discipline to control a small subgun with a full magazine.

Tragedies and perspective.

Bad News*

This isn’t going to help Tennessee’s image any, and you can be sure the Brady Bunch will demagogue the holy shit out of it.

* – I should note that it’s very good news that the plot has been thwarted — the bad news is the inevitable spin that will come of it.

Ted Stevens Guilty

Says the AP. Doesn’t much break my heart but it looks like the Dems could move closer to a filibuster-proof senate. And that’s bad.

As a nutty, paranoid people

KAG:

The story also notes that some nutty, paranoid people people are stocking up on guns because they believe that if Obama wins, he will ban gun ownership.

Yeah, I mean what could possibly give them that idea?

What media bias?

Virginia Newspaper rejects NRA Obama ad. As to why:

The risk for a newspaper that runs the plastic bag ad, according to media ethicist Kelly McBride, is that it may give readers a reason to question its objectivity.

And not running shows all kinds of objectivity!

Via Michael.

Spreading the wealth around

Somebody better tell Barack Obama his communism is showing:

But, the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society.

To that extent, as radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties.

It’s like Factcheck doesn’t like the NRA or something

For a group that is supposedly checking facts, they don’t seem to be very good at it when there’s an election to win:

These guys are so ticked off by the fact that the NRA decided to push back instead of meekly accepting “Factchecks” personal biases that they’re not even really looking very hard and hoping people don’t ‘factcheck’ them in their zeal to post as much against the NRA as they can.

Also, do you want your fact-checking of NRA to come from someone who says of the NRA:

“They are lying. This is what they do. This is how they make their money. Do these people have no shame? They are just making this up. I just wish that they would tell the truth.” He said that their ads were “one of the worst examples of lying” that he had “ever seen.”

That’s real impartial and stuff.

The old ‘fail to mention’ gag

Xrlq on bloggin: anytime a reader purports to attack you for not blogging about X, his real beef is that you are blogging about Y.

Yes. I’ve mentioned my peeve when someone says I failed to mention something before (here and here).

An admission

We gun nuts have known that the place where Great Britain used to be has been under-reporting violent crime. Now, they admit it.

Really?

This just in: All that voter fraud by ACORN that seems to consistently benefit the Obama/Biden camp is all due to whitey keepin’ you down.

I hear a Waaahmbulance

A reporter asked hard questions and did not follow the script Biden is used to. As a result, the Obama/Biden camp has denied the station access for the rest of the campaign.

Motion in Chicago Gun Case

It is here.

Listening to our readers

The KNS asked a bit back if they should endorse. 75% said no they should not. They did it anyway.

They seem to have spent more pixels discussing endorsements than the actual, you know, endorsement.

Heh

A communist evokes property rights.

4473 Changes

Justin notes that the form is changing:

They have checkboxes now for the “Yes/No” question section.

Good. Now they’ll stop shutting down dealers for making who just put a Y or N instead of spelling out Yes or No.

It also has a spot so that you can select bare receiver instead of just handgun or long gun.

A continuing trend

Gun sales up. Some folks I talk to in the gun biz say this election is driving sales.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
