Quote of the day
Jay:
The greatest compliment I can imagine – and I get it frequently – is when one of my kids comes up, completely unbidden, and tells me that they love me. I eat that up for breakfast. It makes everything worthwhile, and I hope they do it until the day I die. No matter how fast they grow, or how big they get, I’ll never stop worrying about them, and I’ll never stop loving them with every fiber of my being.
I will, however, stop doing their laundry before they hit high school…

That’s cool.
The kids should be doing their own laundry as soon as they’re physically able. Certainly by age four or five. They may need a step stool if you have a top-load washer. This is not a matter of who may be able to get the job done better or more efficiently. Forget that. It’s a matter of teaching the kids. It’s for their benefit. You’re showing them how satisfying it is to take care of business on their own. Generally, your job is teaching self-sufficiency and responsibility, and through this they gain confidence and begin to see more possibilities in life.

The correct parental response to this announcement should be:
1)Thank you, I love you too. and…
2) What did you do this time????

Totally agree with Lyle … 100% …. and pretty much with Joe too (but my girls do say “i love you” without “cause” … best things about having kids!).
