Perhaps he kept it handy because he had recently watched a bunch of old gangster movies, in which they were always talking about carrying their heaters.

To add to this. Last night we sent our son to Home Depot to get another water valve for our outside water pipe. Plumbing repairs last night. Any way he went first to gas station and paid $5 for some gas. He has the money in his left hand with the receipts and the water valve in his right. Some idiot grabbed his left wrist and tried to take the cash. My son swung his right hand with the brass valve and turn spigot into the guys face. The mugger fell back and ran off.
Talk about brass knuckles.
