At the gun show
Thirty minute wait to get in. Packed.
Update: $300 for an SKS
WASR for $700
Not an AR for under a grand.

Told you. I went to a gun show a about a month ago and was shocked by the prices.

Dang, I shoulda bought a couple last summer. =(

This is why I’m skipping the Crossroads of the West show here this weekend. I don’t have any pressing needs except for a reloading setup and figure anything I might buy on impulse would be so ridiculously marked-up it just wouldn’t be worth it. Let’s see what happens in the next six months: Right now there’s a level of near-hysterical gun buying that reminds me of the housing boom of 3 years ago. People are panic-buying, and that’s never a good time to be in the market.

I’m with ex Urban Kevin. Asinine prices and nothings happening anytime soon. I’ll wait 6 months or a year. But really, the one thing I’m looking for – a 16 guage LC Smith side by side – isn’t going to be impacted much by the hysteria.
Do have to say, i’d be willing to part with my Saysuncle WASR for an even $1000 if there are any takers. Its even customized by a real life internet celebrity 🙂
Let me know.

They’re getting $350 for a YUGO at Ohio Guns. The anti’s are winning and we are doing it to ourselves.

I don’t think this is a matter of the anti’s winning. It’s frustrating, but it tells you that the demand is very real out of concern for the political situation. That means if they try anything, there will be more troops to mobilize in the political battle to fight it back. Of course, if we do, then prices will come down and some people will be unhappy that they spent so much. It’s not the end of the world. Unlike a housing boom, our economy doesn’t really rely on some people refinancing their guns to buy crap. 🙂

Wow, maybe I should sell mine at a gun show.
I notice that at gun broker they are still around 400-500.

I paid $135 for a Yugo SKS at a gun show just two years ago.

I paid $125 for a Russian at a gun store in Ca. several years ago. Wish I had bought two or three, but I was flying home and had all the baggage I could handle.

Was at an actual gun shop today and the ak clones were ~500 for synthetic and wood eastern bloc rifles to ~700 for the purty russian ones. New, of course.

There’s no point in going to a gun show in this market unless you’re looking for something unusual or are selling something.
January 24th, 2009 at 5:40 pm
Kevin, you didn’t miss much – a small show like the old Ter-Mark ones, but at Crossroads price. Waaay too many folks for the space made it extremely non-fun, and while prices were astronomical, I didn’t see any sign that people were buying guns – I don’t think I saw one 4473 being filled out, tho I’m sure there were some. Cases of ammo (mostly military calibers) was about the only thing really moving (J&G had $240/K AK fodder). (This is Phoenix, AZ, in case anyone cares)

Anti’s winning? I don’t think so. Not yet at least. The current situation of supply and crazy demand is good for dealers, distributors, and manufacturers of the more desired firearms. They may well need that extra money over the next few years.
It is good for us as well, because some of those people that are paying top dollar for those guns have been on the sidelines not paying any attention to second amendment issues prior to this election. I know. The original AWB is what dialed up my attention level on gun control several notches.

Thought about going… until I realized it was on the wrong side of the city for me, and I was not willing to brave the construction zones. And wait in line. And pay. Just to wander around and look at some old / overpriced stuff. *shrugs*

I was at the show in Asheville NC today. I got lucky and the line was not too long when I got in it, but it was much longer later on. Wall to wall people and lots of elbowing through the crowds just to get close to what I wanted to see. Didn’t find what I was looking for ( a model 700 in .308 ) at any resonable prices. Did pick up ammo and a holster for my new Glock 21 for good prices though.

Got luck in finding a Sub-2000 at a local gun shop for right at $250, put it on lay away. Haven seen one at a gun show for almost a year and on all of the gun auction they’re running for around 300 on up.
January 25th, 2009 at 4:01 pm
I waited in line for around 20 minutes also.
It was an okay show, but I didn’t leave any money there.
Georgia Arms wasn’t at the show, so there was not a lot of bulk ammo for sale.

The anti’s aren’t winning, the market is working. The anti’s (ie – left) hate any market they can’t control so we win twice.
