Dude, the JCP has been dead for years now. (…and it was DOA as anything other than a SOCOM-only gun, it never would have made it as an across-the-board M9 replacement. It was just a bone to toss to HK ’cause they were all butthurt over the OICW and XM8 flops.)
More the shame. If there was one piece of hardware I hated the most from my time in, it was not the 40-year-old ships, the steam plants, the spare parts that did not exist… it was the gorramed M-9. Craptacular weapon, buoyed by the momentum of governmental bureaucracy.
The Beretta works. It feels good. I guess there’s the whole logistics issue of changing the NATO standard round too. Gotta have a really good reason to do someting like that.
My father in law used the 1911 when he was in the service, and he hated it too. Different strokes I guess. Can’t please everyone. I might say let each person use what they like, but there’s that whole supply issue again. It’s been an issue since the invention of the club, I guess. Some people like a slim, light club and others prefer a thick, heavy one.
Maybe blessings ought to be counted. They could always have decided go to the FiveseveN with its lightweight polymer frame and ability for the soldier to carry about eleventy-billion rounds of ammunition.
It took 4 different M9s during my qualification for expert with it. One would go down, I would release the mag, put it down, and pick up another from the armorers box next to me. Load mag, rack slide, **release the f-ing safety**, and resume hitting the black 10 ring. I mean really, I can understand a heavy, unreliable, ugly POS being given to us, but I can’t understand a gun that blocks itself from firing after you chamber a round. It’s like it doesn’t want to fight. Has there been a confirmed hostile kill with it even?? Please just give us G17s, and I hate glocks.

20,000 going to Iraq? Well I hope the insurgents get them, so that when they jam up we can kill them easier!

Y’know, that’s f*cking hilarious.
I hate the 92FS, but if there’s one thing I wouldn’t accuse it of, it’s being unreliable on the feeding cycle…
