Nice group

Four armed guys decide to do a home invasion in Tucson. Homeowner’s security system alerts him. Homeowner prevails and manages to drive the invaders away. Video here. I’m impressed with the tight group on the windshield of the car. Impressive, particularly in those circumstances.

It doesn’t look like they penetrated, though…

Wow, that’s a fast response! Almost too fast to believe.

John; How would we know whether the rounds penetrated? What round would be incapable of penetrating a car window? Pellet gun?

Here’s the deal; virtually any caliber firearm is going to penetrate a standard windshield, but random deflection means that we have no way of knowing where the bullets go after penetration, or what kind of shape they’re in. We also don’t know the angle from which the bullets were fired. It’s also possible the driver was hit and continued his escape.

What gets me is that all of the crooks were armed, but they turned tail and ran as soon as the homeowner started fighting! As we all know, most crooks are cowards.

I just hope he doesn’t get into any trouble for firing after the last invader got into the car and was leaving.

unless I misread the tape the driver was still firing out the left window after regaining the driver’s seat. If that is, in fact, what I saw, he should be ok with continuing to fire.

Y’all need to look at it to either verify or debunk what I just said, because I have very poor eyesight at the moment. Was supposed to have right eye surgery this a.m. but had to postpone it. therefore I could be all wet.

After a second look, it seems the window was up, but he was still closing the door when the shots hit the windshield. I couldn’t really tell if the BG was firing between the door frame and the A post. It is possible, but given the logistics of getting in and closing the door it doesn’t seem likely.

On the other hand, once the car starts backing up, the homeowner does stop firing (or at least no new holes appear in the windshield – which, given the grouping of the first holes, seems to be a good indicator).

straightarrow: Off topic, but I put a direct link to the original story in the comments of yesterday’s “Discharge of firearms challenged” post, with a little more info.

I saw shattered glass, but no holes. I suppose I shouldn’t expect to see holes at that angle and poor resolution…

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
