Extremists
According to the Paper of making up the Record, the NRA is extremist. I would say that if you went down all the gun issues, average folks would tend to agree more with NRA than with the editorial board of the NYT.

The New York Times has such overdeveloped ghey sensibilities that their shrill, shrieking hissy-fits against guns are unreadable. Maybe that helps explain why they’re heading into financial ruin.

Actually, as gun rights advocates go, the NRA is no better than centrist, certainly not extremist.
I’ve never heard the NRA even use hyperbole, except for the famous “cold dead hands” mantra. They certainly do not advocate militia training, and they do take a wait-and-see attitude on most anti-gun matters instead of striking back as soon as they could.
No, the NRA is not extremist. May not even be centrist. Might be to the left of the gun rights spectrum, actually.
