Open and shut
We have open primaries in Tennessee. Probably because the state has a lot of independents. There’s a push to close the primaries. AC says: Don’t close open primaries.

Aren’t you afraid you might be forced to follow Washington State’s example? I think the free-association arguments used by the parties here are fairly unassailable.

If the Democrats and Republicans want closed primaries….let them pay for’em! If citizen taxpayers are paying….I’m one and I’m voting IF there’s a fit candidate.
I’ve thought about joining the Republican Party, but they expect you to march in lock-step at election time and vote for guys like John (Juan) McCain….who support stuff like allowing the invasion of his own country….by mass illegal immigration.

In order to pass California’s budget (which requires 2/3 of each house to vote in favor), the Governator and the Democrats agreed to a Republican Senator’s request to put open primaries on the ballot. (i.e. Californians would vote on whether they want open primaries).

I think closed primaries make the most sense. Want to vote on who the standard bearer for Party X will be? Fine, but would it kill you to actually join Party X, first?
