Not just the Commercial Appeal
A hearty thank you to Christian Do These Labels Look Suspicious? Trejbal. Seems the bill to limit access to handgun carry permit data in VA is heading to the governor for a signature. Passed unanimously in both houses.

I think you deserve a lot of the credit for this. You really got the word out and the blogger community jumped on it. Well done.

“02/25/09 Senate: Passed Senate (40-Y 0-N)”
Wow! Zero opposition.

Curtis:
As a direct result of the Plain Dealer’s abuse, Ohio essentially has that law–The news can find out if a particular individual has a license, but can’t copy anything down, and essentially can no longer get access to the entire list.
Seems to be the standard path in a shall-issue state–News claims to need access for legitimate purposes, a major news organization abuses the access, access gets removed or severely restricted.

I want to point out that this is a natural cycle.
The “contrast” of having someone do something we don’t like leads to the “positive” of getting something better than we currently have.
Keep that in mind when the next “They are doing something bad over there!” crisis pops up. If we work toward the positive end, things get better. Sometimes it is hard to keep that in mind when things seem to be headed for disaster.
