AHSA
First time we’ve heard from the American Hunters and Shooters Association for a while. Seems Ray (who may or may not be a member) is telling the big O that an assault weapons ban is bad policy. And:
This type of legislation will only disillusion the millions of law-abiding gun owners who voted for Barack Obama, believing that he did indeed support their right to own firearms.
So, have the antis given up on the AWB pipe dream?

I don’t think so. I think they are waiting for his second term.
It is good news though that their own side is telling them not to do this. . . . I think they know many of the recent gun sales are AW and new shooters even though they claim that they are not to the press. . . . .
If we keep arming maybe they will get the point. . .

OK, I should have said many of the new sales are AW look alikes, since they are not true assault weapons. . . .

Looks like Ray is trying to establish credibility.

Seems to me only that some of the antis haven’t forgotten 1994. Obama may have 4 years to go but Congress has an election real soon in political time.
Maybe in all their attempts to link Obama to Lincoln, they got to his quote about fooling most of the people?

Think about the AHSA’a methods and goals. They are an anti-gun group designed to act as a cover for the Democrat’s and Obama’s election efforts, whose sole purpose was to convince Dem gun owners that the issue of gun control was not an election issue. It worked.
They still are an anti-gun group designed to act as a cover for Democrats and Obama, to further the goals of gun control. Regardless of the what Ray Schoenke says in this email, his goal and the goal of the group he heads is to further gun control.
So how does this email work toward that end? Perhaps a show of resistance followed by total capitulation after being “convinced” by the President. Perhaps a complete and very public change of position after a well-publicized murder, to “save the children.” Perhaps he will maintain his opposition, at least publicly, to banning semiautomatic rifles and propose a “common sense” alternative such as federal registration of all semiauto rifles.
One thing I do know is that even he is being truthful (which there is plenty of reason to doubt whenever his words appear) about his opposition to revival of the AWB, his goal is to ban guns. He is just arguing about the methods best able to achieve that goal.

I do not think they will attmept the orifginal bill, but look out for mini regulations in many bills to come. Such as HR45.
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c111:H.R.45:
If this passes it will allow for:
any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
•It is registered
•You are fingerprinted
•You supply a current Driver’s License
•You supply your Social Security #
•You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
•Each update – change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 – Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
•There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.
