So maybe our congress-critters ought to just pass a simple law, (the kind that are suppose to be read and understood by the voters, not the obfuscated other kind that gives pork and takes away rights), stating that signing statements are merely presidential opinion and carry no weight of law. Furthermore, have the law prohibit the courts from even considering them. When the president vetos it, override it.
Naw, I suppose the kerfuffle over signing statements givens the other party something to bitch about, so solving the problem would be a bad thing.
Not exactly a IOKIYAAD situation, in that Obama’s saying “Bush overused and abused them, and I’m taking us back to pre-Bush norms, and am just saying that I’m not going to rule out using them, but merely saying the way it was done by the previous administration was wrong.”
