When I was at Disney a couple of years ago I looked for “NO WEAPONS” signs. Couldn’t find any. In contrast, the Universal Studios parking stub explicitly stated that weapons were not allowed. I didn’t carry in the park at Disney because I was going on rides which would have challanged my holster’s retention ability, not because it was posted. It would be embarassing to have my .45 come flying loose in Space Mountain.
I would seriously look into that… I seem to recall (passing read, no CCW and don’t live in Florida)that they were able to get a state exception because they handled explosives (fireworks). I really think they won that and that it’s not a matter of posting, but rather because it is a State Exclusion area….
Well, I googled the subject and turned up a granny that got arrested in 2007 for having a gun in the park, prior to Florida changing the laws. Then last summer, they fired an employee who kept his gun in his car, and made the statement that “…they couldn’t prevent guests from having guns in their cars, but weapons remained prohibited with the parks”
So I searched the Disney World website, and there is NOTHING on that site about weapons in the parks..
Whatever you do, I wouldn’t wave it around a lot..:-)
I just noticed that Florida honors my NH Carry permit. I’m heading down there next week. I don’t have a proper carrying case, so maybe I’ll call Midway tonight and order one up, try out my summer carry options a hair early.
Whatever I choose I know I’ll be taking the class for the FL permit because it’s awesome.
As I wrote on ‘Days’ blog, I think this is a good meme for pro-gun blogs to develop. It will create a large web-database of entries that say ‘Man with a gun’ but not be a link to a mass shooting or other crime. The net result is that searches will result in positive results. I guess it is the equivalent of a ‘Google Bomb’.
The granny was arrested because she did not have a permit. The guard who was fired filed a lawsuit against the park. It was quietly settled out of court. Disney’s policy has since been quietly changed.

Really? I’ve seen no sign stating that. And my gun spends most of its time in the safe in the room.

Yeah, I thought Mickey didn’t like guns. Then again, after watching South Park last night, he just might….

I think Disney only prevents it’s peons from carrying. Though with all the Suzy Soccermoms around you’re definitely in enemy territory.

Nice! I know exactly how you feel about carrying and I actually know Orlando..you’re smart to carry everywhere in that town!

So, is this a tip that we should be seeing a “Crazed Gunman Arrested Near Epcot Center” headline in the Orlando Sentinel before the week is over? 😉

@ Otter – I think that was about an employee carrying a gun on the premises around explosives, not your average Joe.
