Ammo For Sale

Brass

So, while I was out, DoD decided to end sales of once fired brass to ammo manufacturers, which would put people out of jobs and be seen as a big finger snub of gun owners by the Obama administration. Also while I was gone, a couple of Senators got wind of it and put a stop to it. Thanks to Senator Tester and Senator Baucus.

Did I read somewhere that US DOD brass is made to much higher standards than commercial cartridge cases? Having to do with tensile strength and “stretchability” of the case neck?

  2. Vote For David Says:

It’s thicker-walled brass and IIRC the primers are harder to get out (crimped?).

  3. Robert Says:

We shoot and recycle thousands of .223 Lake City cases in Highpower Rifle. It would be a big hit to be cut off from this source, as the Obamites knew. Hope it’s true that this source will continue to be available.
Shredding or crushing it so that it would be useful ONLY as scrap is..crazy.

I’m shooting Lake City 03 and 04 this weekend over a three day NRA Regional Match at Bayou Rifles south of Houston.

Word on the Georgia Arms website is that the act has been rescinded on anything .50 cal and below, thanks to a number of people calling their Reps and protesting.

  5. countertop Says:

Being no partisan and all, shouldn’t we play “name that party here” and point out that both Tester and Baucus are Democrats from Montana.

  6. Eagle 1 Says:

Apparently the person responsible was a nOOB at the DOD trying to “do their job” and took the demil directives a bit too zealously……without thinking a whole lot about it. That’s the problem with bureaucratocracies. No thought process. It was not necessarily a politically motivated anti-gun directive but it sure looked like it given the other stuff that’s been said by the adnministration lately.

This is great news! I was PO’d when I read the plan to scrap the brass yesterday, but this has really made my day, and in this day and age it doesnt take much…

  8. flashman Says:

Glad to hear the change has been scrapped (pun intended.) I wrote my VA congressional delegation yesterday – they’re all Dems, but at least Webb is a 2nd amendment guy.

  9. Standard Mischief Says:

    Cool.

Now do you think they will sell the surplus HUMVEEs out to the open market with clear titles, or will they continue to crush them to bits and sell them as scrap?

That’s your and my tax money getting crushed and scrapped.

  10. Georges Ass Says:

ahhh. Bush signed this bill to eliminate the possibility that insurgents were getting artillery shells to use as IED’s…Silly republithugs keep clinging to your guns, I’d loose the religion, it not helping

When I was a kid, we would go to where mountain troops had conducted their exercises and pick up all kinds of spent shells. Grownups, too. I have a flower vase beautifully hand-crafted from a 40 mm cannon shell by some metalsmith. I don’t know that anybody does that anymore, though.

  12. Kellene Says:

We put out a blog up about this outrage and were happily able to rescind it after hearing the great news! Still, it’s disturbing that so few people can have such a widespread influence on so many… http://tinyurl.com/dlz6gg

Glad to see the pro-gun Dems, Tester and Baucus, lead the way on this. This should help to serve notice on the rabidly anti-2nd Amendment Obama Administration that their tyrannical agenda will face bi-partisan resistance in Congress.

The State of Montana is also a leader on gun issues, from whence comes these two senators. It was repeorted that Montana would have possibly seceded from the Union IF the Supreme Court ruled against “the RIGHT of the people” in the 2nd Amendment. Montana entered the union with the understanding that keeping and bearing (carrying) arms is a protected RIGHT!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
