Weapon carry permit
Via R. Neal, we learn of HB1801:
As introduced, provides that “handgun carry permit” may be used interchangeably with “weapon carry permit” where applicable, thereby imposing any rights or duties that apply to persons with a handgun carry permit to persons who carry a lawful weapon.
The benefit being that those with carry permits can keep long guns in their vehicle, something currently not allowed in TN. The bill passed the house 82-10.
Guess I don’t need to build that AR pistol after all.

Wait, what? You can’t keep a long gun in your truck? You mean gunracks are useless in Tennessee?
Bizarre.
Almost as bizarre is this Pennsylvania law, which I found out solely by accident from Sebastian, and would never have known otherwise, because I had never heard of such a thing and would ever have thought to ask, but here, you can’t have a loaded long gun in your vehicle.

Count me as another “Wow, you couldn’t do that in Tennessee!?” person.
Even before we got CHL passed in Texas you could carry around long guns in cars/trucks without permits…
You can now do the same with handguns (used to be you needed the CHL even for “car carry” of a handgun, which was my primary motivation to get my CHL at one time, before I wised up).
One goofy hiccup in Texas law is that if you decide (why you would do so is beyond me, but…) to get your CHL for *revolver only* (yes, you can do that–again, why someone would I have no clue), but are stopped and found to have a semiauto in your car’s glovebox, you are guilty of a crime (because you have the *wrong* permit), where a person with no CHL at all would NOT be guilty of any offense. Crazy? Yeah. Not likely to impact many folks but still…
Getting your TX CHL by taking the test using a semiauto is the way to go, of course, since that automatically qualifies you to carry a revolver, too, which is precisely what I did, because I do carry both.

You can have long guns in your car in TN, but unloaded, ammo and gun stored separately, and some other restrictions I’m too lazy to Google.
