Like you and me, only better

Delegates wish to carry weapons without a permit because the permitting process they’ve put in place takes too long and is inconvenient when they decide they really need a weapon:

Controversy often inflames passions, and mindful of this lawless age and a propensity of some in society to go over the edge, a few lawmakers want the right to arm themselves without a weapons permit.

One sponsor of such a House bill, in fact, Delegate Mark Hunt, D-Kanawha, relayed a personal threat directed at him and his family, penned by the hand of a convict.

A self-described “monster,” the man behind bars warned of what he intended to do to Hunt and his children.

Hunt decided to leave nothing to chance and get a firearm, but was told he had to wait during a two-month concealed weapon application process.

Despite the written threat, the man was released, but authorities picked him up a day later.

Hunt is a co-sponsor of HB3248, aimed at adding members of the Legislature to a list of officials and others who are allowed to skip the waiting period and carry a firearm.

Delegate David Walker, D-Clay, the lead sponsor, says he has never been threatened, but if he were, wouldn’t hesitate to arm himself.

Living under the very laws you passed, that’s just for the little people, right?

This is really a question for the legal beagles, but wouldn’t an equal protection suit be in order, should they get their way?

  2. Vote For David Says:

No Homer don’t be silly they are better than you! Not equal, better!

  3. LibertyNews Says:

Hey, I think it is a great idea! Just as long as they apply the laws equally to the rest of their citizens and let all of them carry without permits as well.

  4. John H. Says:

You know, as aggravating as it may be for those of you who can carry sidearms in day-to-day life after a licensing period, to me, someone who is outright denied that basic human freedom, this is both nauseating and enraging.

  5. _Jon Says:

Wouldn’t such a law violate the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection” clause?

  6. retro Says:

The only thing preventing anyone from carrying concealed is their own conscience. Laws to the contrary be damned.

As our own politicians are very publicly and blatantly exhibiting, America is no longer a nation under the Rule of Law.

  7. Mikee Says:

That this person sees himself as different under the law compared with his fellow citizens is an abomination, an all too common abomination. I suggest he be targeted by the locals for public exhibition of every possible infraction of law he commits, from traffic violations to tax errors to personal infidelity to breaking in line at the grocery store. Then unelect his sorry backside.

  8. Huck Says:

Screw Mark Hunt and his kind! The waiting period, that he and his kind implimented, obviously sucks but he appears to have had no problem with it until it affected HIM!

This clown sounds like someone who needs a new line of work after the next election.

  9. Xrlq Says:

Homer & Jon: in theory, any law that anyone thinks is unfair can be challenged on equal protection grounds. In practice, a law alleged to discriminate by almost anything except race, religion, national origin or sex will be subject to “batshit crazy” review, which upholds any law that a legislature wouldn’t have been batshit crazy to have enacted. The exception to that rule is that if the law is alleged to discriminate against gays, the courts will likely rule that the Legislature was, in fact, batshit crazy.

Speaking of guano-induced insanity, why on earth is anyone in WV, of all places, proposing this? It’s not as though concealed carry permits were all that hard to get in WV – is it?

  10. straightarrow Says:

Ahh, but you see they have outed themselves. They have exposed the fact that they do not believe in what they have previously legislated. They have recognized the immediacy of being able to protect one’s life and the lives of family.

Now is the time for all gun rights activists to rage and scream about their perfidy to all and sundry. Now is the time for all citizens to demand that their legislator address this issue head-on and do away with permits and waiting periods for everybody. It has just been admitted that the present law is wrong and even they do not believe in it. Failing that demand they issue statements, each and every one of them, that they believe they are better than their constituents and deserve protection that is not suitable for the ‘rabble’. Failing that, it is time to shut them down. Crowd the capitol, raise Hell, make them call the cops to remove you, then do it again tomorrow and the day after and the day after and the day…..

After all is said and done, there is now nowhere for them to hide, unless we let them.

They won’t even be able to offer any legitimate argument against their own contradictory bullshit, simply because anything they now say means, either they will be lying in the present or lied in the past. Either way, if WestbyGodVirginians have any guts, they’ve got these bastards by the balls.

  11. John H. Says:

retro – Actually, my conscience is not at all burdened by breaking laws. I just don’t have the necessary black-market connections necessary to actually obtain sidearms.

  12. John H. Says:

    Excise the latter “necessary,” please.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
