Well, in their defense, they were trying to pass plenty of stupid laws before this session.

Since I usually give you a regular update of the number of laws proposed anytime you mention plenty of stupid ones, here’s the tally as of April 2 from all states & Congress:
Number of Intros last week: 3,639
Number of 2009 Session Enacted/Adopted last week: 2,033
Number of Intros to date: 121,323
Number of 2009 Session Enacted/Adopted overall to date: 12,079
More than 12,000 new laws and resolutions in 2009 – and more than 121,000 potential new laws to come! I feel better already.

That’s nothin’. Seventy-seven members of the Maryland state legislature are involved in legal proceedings against them. So, the Maryland House has passed a bill permitting legislature members to ignore court appearances and paperwork filings on civil and criminal cases while the legislature is in session.
Maryland HB 1115 was scheduled for a state Senate hearing day before yesterday. Dunno how it went, but it’s probably not hard to guess.
