What’s in your range bag?

Question is asked and answered. Here and here.

I find I need to add a small flashlight these days. Lighting at indoor ranges stinks.

Update: More here and here.

    Done ages ago…

And yes, a small flashlight is key. I use mine for seeing the lock to the club after dark, FWIW…

    Shooting under cheap florescents sux.

Shoot indoors? Almost never. Geeze that’s a lot of stuff most of which I don’t carry: Ammo for *that* gun(rifle), spotting scope, hat, shooting glove, magazines, band-aids, ear-muffs, cleaning fluids and patches, spray can of sight-black, Leatherman “kick” tool from Costco, Sinclair High-Power record book.

Don’t carry a range bag. It’s 150′ to my range from my front door. And I can use the exercise from walking back to get what I forgot.

I want to get one though.

My range bag is a 2007 Ford F150 truck. I dont shoot at indoor ranges, or any ranges for that matter. There’s plenty of wide open public land here in Wyoming and I go to a place in the boondocks and do my shooting there.

I pack some juice and gin. Don’t forget ears though.

Like JayG, I’ve got my own thoughts down here.

I notice that just about everyone packs pretty heavy. I just bring eyes and ears, ammo and targets, and a gun.

I mean, what else do you need?

Of course, I focus on using a handgun for self defense. I don’t bring along any tools because that sort of defeats the purpose of a self defense gun. Good luck finding a violent criminal to stop what they are doing and stand by while you get the Leatherman out to fix your gun.

Lots of people bring along cleaning stuff. Didn’t they clean the gun before going to the range? Or do they just like cleaning their guns before packing up to go home?

Same goes with bringing along rags, wipes, or silicon cloth. I just use the tail of my shirt.

Things aren’t as simple if someone is going to the rifle range. A spotter scope would be necessary in that case. Cleaning stuff is also necessary if shooting corrosive ammo.

You don’t keep a flashlight on you all the time? I got a cute little Gerber that takes a single AAA battery, and is barely bigger than said battery.

Wish I could remember which blog I was reading where the guy commented on how people would poke fun at him for always having a flashlight, until it came in handy.

My wife thought I was odd for carrying a light. So, every chance I get I say “Gee, if only we had a flashlight. Oh, wait, I’ve got one right here!” and proceed to triumphantly pull it out of my pocket and turn it on.

It has happened so often that she will often preempt my statement with a “Yeah, I know, you’ve got a flashlight on you.” in a vain attempt to avoid the reminder that it’s a good idea to have one available no matter where you are.

It’s one of those things that you never realize how often you would use it until you carry one around. You know what they say… It’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Well, in my case, my home range is out in the desert, and things get a mite bit dusty at times. Cleaning dropped mags in-between stages is almost a must out here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
