Knowing v. feeling
An admission:
The difference in this debate is that I have been arguing on the basis of what I believe to be true, and doing my best to explain why I believe it. Kevin, by way of contrast, claims to be able to literally ‘prove’ his case beyond any doubt whatsoever by recourse to detailed statistical data.
Well, yeah. And he did.

And I’m not done with him yet.

Every time I read that, I shake my head and laugh.
Kevin, you bastard, how dare you let facts interfere with a good daydream!

I don’t think the author’s intent was expressed correctly in the words he chose. However, he managed to inadvertently write a correct and concise description of the situation.

The “I believe it, therefore it’s true” statement gains the power it has from it’s association with religious faith. The fact that it loses that power when applied to secular matters is lost on these people.

Haven’t seen a hoplophobe yet that didn’t rely on emotion rather than facts.

Mikee is right. He wasn’t admitting anything. He still believes he is right and Kevin and Joe are wrong. He has, as these whingey whiney liberals all do, successfully missed the entire point of all the facts.
Bear in mind he lives in the Socialist state of Scotland and as they have been Socialist for decades it’s built into the culture.

I don’t think anyone is claiming he admitted he was wrong. He is just admitting that from his world viewpoint his beliefs do not have to conform to solid data from the external reality. He is admitting to living in a dream world disconnected from reality.
