Gun Sales Up
With the 2009 fiscal year in the books, handgun manufacturer GLOCK, Inc. has announced a 36% increase in pistol sales over 2008 sales. Coming off of five consecutive years of sustained growth, the company that focuses exclusively on semi-automatic handguns for Commercial, Law Enforcement and Federal/Military sales is preparing for another strong year in FY 2010.

Well call me dumb founded. I was arguing that Glock was going to see their sales continue to decline since they are a one trick pony and other companies now seem to do that trick better IMHO. The XD/XDM has a better trigger and larger capacity, the M&P has a better trigger and better ergonomics, and while I never though Glocks were ugly, they both look better too. Also, since they don’t wear out very easily, used Glocks have flooded the market from departmental resales, resulting an a glut of nearly new Glocks at much lower prices.
Of course, so many firearms have been sold since November 4th, it seems likely that even the poorest selling guns are going for record sales figures.

I’d like to know more about which model Glocks are making up this increase. Based on what I’ve seen at gun stores/shows and on TFL/THR, I think it’s mostly the subcompacts that are increasingly popular. Finding a Glock 26 around here is nearly impossible, and even Glock 19s are fairly hard to find. Glock 17s and the rest of the calibers (except the 36 and 30SF) are in abundance, though.

Tell us something we don’t know. I’d like to know how much ammo has been sold in the last three months.
