Bad move: President Obama has nominated Mothers Against Drunk Driving CEO Chuck Hurley to head up the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

So…is Chuck a mother? Against Drunk Driving is easy to prove, but the Mother part might be a little hard.

A life-long anti-alcohol activist? Wanna bet he’ll be busted for DWI within 6 months?

MADD needs to be abolished…badly. Having achieved their aim (sometime back in the 1980’s, I think) of maximum blood alcohol content for drivers, they are forced to push for ever-decreasing BAC levels, or face the prospect of looking for a real job. It’s prohibition in slow motion with these people.
Now, I’m certainly not in favor of driving sh*t-faced drunk, mind you, or even relatively inebriated. But from personal experience, I’d say that .10 is a pretty reasonable standard for the general public. There’s no reason for a cop on a pure fishing expedition to harass and demean you because you had two beers with dinner. MADD is sort of like VPC, though: if you can’t get what you want all at once, get it incrementally, and lobby for ever-increasing punishments for ever-decreasing infractions…make it “illegal-er”.
Of course, MADD is safe for now, because Urkel never met a statist he didn’t like.
