    I think that I would have gone with Delrin. Jack.

    That’s just freakin’ cool.

    The cost of some of the better plastics would make just milling an aluminum billet actually cheaper.

    Now, educate a gun noob here – beings as that’s the lower receiver, and therefore legally “the gun” (aka Tam’s “Serial Number Part”; he has to serialize that puppy and is technically a Merchant of Death?

    “OH MY GOD! IT’S A GUN! AND IT’S DESIGNED TO GO THROUGH MEDAL DETECTORS! EEEEEE!!!!”

    Didn’t Cavalry Arms already do something like this?

    Points for creativity, but One-Eyed Jack is right, Delrin would have been a better choice, me thinks.

    Come to think of it, why haven’t I built an AR lower out of Delrin? Hmmmmm.

    That is fucking cool.

    @Ian
    We in the US can make all the guns we want as long as they don’t violate any federal or local laws and we don’t transfer them.
    We can even make NFA items if we fill out a Form 1, pay the tax stamp and get it approved (most things will get approved).

    Yup. Had a hypothesis (heretofore untested, been busy) a couple years ago that if you whittled it out in the right places, you can turn a 2×4 into an AR lower.

    There’s quite literally no stress on the lower at all beyond the stress the bolt puts on the hammer, and holding the buffer tube in place. Actually, that may be where he’s getting his jamming problem… HDPE is bendy, under force I bet the buffer tube is bending out of line.

    bolt together AR from AL. Mine’s making slow progress as life gets in the way…and threading that dang buffer tube on a mini-lathe is something I dread. Of course I’m also building a 10/22 pistol from plate at the same time as I can actually afford to feed that.

    I’ve got some hunks of lexan (1″ thick and at least 12″ sq) sitting around here that have just been screaming to be made into an AR.

    I was pretty sure you can make your own legally; I was just curious whether you had to serialize it etc.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
