Feds to regulate Cheerios?
Because it reduces cholesterol, it’s a drug. Via Robert, who says:
First of all, is General Mills a REAL General…or what? IF General Mills is a General, then he ought to order the FDA lined up and shot.

Drudge headlined it yesterday.
I’m not sure what the big deal is about the FDA’s move. They seem to be in the right here.
You can’t make untested claims. If Cheerios says “Contains Oat Bran,” no problem.
If Cheerios says “Oat Bran can reduce cholesterol” there’s probably no problem.
When they make a specific claim as they did here – lowering cholesterol 10% in one month – with no scientific evidence conducted to FDA’s standards then the FDA is right to call them on it, just as they’re right to call out herbalists and quacks who make specific, untested claims.
