Years ago, I started doing a little mental exercise. At first, it was just for amusement more or less, something to pass the time. I tried to put myself in some other person’s place, and think, “What would I do in _____’s situation?”
Enter the words ‘armed-robber’, ‘killer’, ‘rapist’, or similar things into the blank above. Enter the name of your most heinous local-news criminal. Then consider what you’d do if you were that person, and your goal was money, or power, or sexual gratification— regardless of the means required to attain those ends. How would you plan your crimes? Whom would you victimize? How would you avoid capture and conviction?

And when you’ve really thought about it for a while, ask yourself: is it really so unreasonable for me to want every law-abiding citizen (men and women, red & yellow, black & white, loddy-doddy-EVERYBODY) to have the OPTION of going armed, if they so desire?

That, to me, is the only thing that needs to be considered.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
