Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign?
Remember that sign I made fun of? Well, in OH, police are asking banks to post that same sign. Via Guav who states the obvious: Why would someone about to rob a bank—which is already breaking the law—bother to comply with the law concerning hoods & hats?

My guess is that expecting the criminals to comply isn’t the point.
But rather that since most non-criminals will be willing to comply those that don’t can be quickly identified. Sort of a “Bummer of a birthmark, Hal”.
Not sayin’ it’s right. Just sayin’.

^^ Ditto.
The point of these signs isn’t to keep out bank robbers. It’s to alert your average hoodie- or hat-wearer that they are likely to get a lot of attention if they walk in the bank wearing something that covers their head and face. And it also puts potential robbers on notice that they will be watched carefully from the moment they walk in the door

Not just watching. The studies done with convicted bank robbers show that most of them walk out without robbing the place if anyone, especially security, confronts them about anything before they actually get to the teller.
I suspect that this is as much about giving the guard a reason that he needs to interact with them before they get there more than anything else.
(Seriously. “Sir, take off your hat” is enough to spook most bank robbers enough that they back out.)

Sorry guys, you have totally missed the point of this policy. The idea here is to train the public to be obedient. Nothing else.
